Visit of Landlab to Kaumera Production Site
Recently, Rossella Bortolaso, Chief Operating Officer and R&D Manager Plant Protection at Landlab in Italy, visited one of the facilities where Kaumera is produced (“Kaumera raw materials factory Zutphen”). During the visit, she presented the latest results of the field trials that Landlab is conducting with Kaumera and discussed with us the next steps in the research and potential new applications in agriculture.
Landlab is a renowned research company specializing in advanced methods and solutions in agriculture and horticulture. Since 2024, Landlab has been conducting laboratory and field trials with Kaumera to investigate the material’s effectiveness as a biostimulant under realistic field conditions.
“Kaumera is a highly interesting material with great potential for applications in agriculture.”
Rossella Bortolaso.
Field research in Italy
The trials are conducted under open field conditions in Italy and focus on the effects of Kaumera, particularly under drought stress. The tests were carried out on corn and peppers, using two different application methods:
- Leaf spraying (Foliar treatment )
- Application in the soil at the root zone (in-furrow treatment)
These field trials provide important data on how Kaumera can support soils and plants, even under stress conditions, and how the material can best be applied in agriculture.
Step towards application as a bio stimulant
Kaumera already has a CE marking as a soil improver, and this product is already available on the European market. The current field trials provide the data needed to also register Kaumera as a bio stimulant under European regulations. Strict requirements apply to ensure that farmers and growers can be confident that the product is effective.
During the visit to the production site, we also discussed new testing programs and potential additional applications. For example, research is currently being conducted into the role Kaumera could play considering its physical properties for a better water distribution on leafs.
“The collaboration with Landlab is important to us. The field research provides valuable insights that help develop new applications for Kaumera and further strengthen the role of bio-based solutions in sustainable agriculture.”
Patrick van de Velden, managing director Kaumera sales & services B.V.
The collaboration with Landlab demonstrates how international R&D cooperation can contribute to the development of innovative and sustainable solutions for agriculture.
